Pickering Swim Club program information

start your swim journey

Interested in joining Pickering Swim Club? We welcome swimmers at different stages of development and help each swimmer find the program and training group that best supports their skills, goals, and experience.

All new swimmers begin their journey with an assessment before joining a program. Our coaching staff will evaluate each swimmer and recommend the appropriate placement based on their current skills, experience, and development.

How to Join Pickering Swim Club

1. Register for an Assessment

New swimmers complete an assessment with a club coach before joining a program. This allows our coaching staff to understand each swimmer's abilities and determine the best starting point.

2. Receive Program Placement

Following the assessment, our coaching staff will recommend the program and training group that best supports your swimmer's development.

3. Complete Registration

Once placement has been confirmed, families will receive registration instructions for the appropriate program.

Assessment Details

Assessments are offered during scheduled assessment periods throughout the year. Our main assessment period takes place in late August/early September, with additional opportunities in December and March if space is available.

Before Registering for an Assessment

Swimmers should be able to:

  • Swim 25 metres unassisted
  • Demonstrate basic comfort and confidence in the water

Upcoming Assessment Dates

Upcoming assessment dates will be posted here once confirmed.

When registration opens, families will be able to select an available assessment timeslot and complete registration through our online registration system.

Families will need to create a Pickering Swim Club account (if they do not already have one) and select an available timeslot to complete registration.

Assessment Notification List

If assessment registration is not currently open, families can join our notification list to be notified when the next assessment opportunity becomes available.

Joining the notification list does not reserve an assessment spot or complete registration. Families must register for an available assessment timeslot when registration opens.

A Volunteer-Supported Club

Pickering Swim Club is more than a place to swim — it is a community built by swimmers, coaches, and families working together. The opportunities our swimmers have to train, compete, and grow are made possible through the dedication of our coaching staff and the support of our club families. Our hosted swim meets depend on family volunteers to help provide safe, organized, and positive experiences for our swimmers.

Volunteering is a requirement of membership in our competitive program. Families are expected to volunteer at 4 of our 5 hosted swim meets each season and complete the volunteer commitment associated with their highest-level swimmer.

No previous experience is required. Many families begin by timing races, helping with meet setup, or supporting other meet activities. Our team provides the guidance and training needed to get involved, with opportunities to take on additional roles over time.
