Fundamentals Expectations

Applicable to: Fun I Fun II Fun III

The Pickering Swim Club (PICK) is committed to providing an environment where City of Pickering staff, participants, volunteers, and members of the public are treated with respect. Our program is designed to provide a safe, positive, and supportive environment that encourages confidence, personal growth, sportsmanship, and fun.

Pickering Swim Club is privileged to enjoy the support of the City of Pickering and to be a guest at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (CHRDC) and Dunbarton Indoor Pool (DUN) where our programs operate. All swimmers, parents/guardians, and instructors are expected to follow the rules and guidelines of each facility.

All swimmers registered with Swim Ontario must sign the Swim Ontario Code of Conduct.  As a club, we defer to this code of conduct and will follow the Swim Ontario Discipline and Appeal Procedure.

Above and beyond the Swim Ontario Code of Conduct, all PICK FUNdamentals swimmers and parents/guardians are expected to:

  • Treat coaches, instructors, swimmers, volunteers, officials, facility staff, and other families with courtesy and respect.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment by refraining from comments or behaviours that are disrespectful, offensive, abusive, discriminatory, racist, or sexist.
  • Avoid any behaviour that brings Pickering Swim Club or the sport of swimming into disrepute.
  • Avoid any activity or behaviour that interferes with or endangers the safety of others.
  • Follow the instructions of coaches, instructors, lifeguards, and facility staff.

FUNdamentals Swimmers Are Expected To:

  • Listen to coaches and instructors and follow directions during each lesson.
  • Arrive prepared for each session with the required equipment, including a swimsuit, towel, and goggles.
  • Participate positively and make their best effort.
  • Treat pool equipment and facilities with care.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times.

Parents/Guardians Are Expected To:

  • Supervise and remain responsible for their swimmer whenever they are not on the pool deck.
  • Be responsible for supervising their swimmer while using or walking through the change rooms. This includes the Universal Change Room at CHDRC and the gender-specific or Family Change Rooms at DUN.
  • Accompany their swimmer onto the pool deck no earlier than five (5) minutes before the start of practice, removing outdoor shoes before entering the deck.
  • Leave the pool deck once the instructor has assumed responsibility for the group.
  • Observe practices from the designated viewing gallery unless invited onto the pool deck by the instructors. Please note that there is no formal viewing gallery at Dunbarton.
  • Follow all facility rules, including Health Regulations regarding footwear on the pool deck.
  • Direct questions or concerns regarding instruction to the FUNdamentals Head Coach rather than interrupting lessons.
